    B. Answer the following questions:

    1. What do you understand by category view in the control panel?

    The control panel icons are grouped by category. This view is called category view. Sometime all the options are not visible in the category view. In such a case, one can switch to the classic view. In the classic view, each option is displayed separately.

     

    2. List three ways in which you can customize your desktop.

    The three ways on which we can customize our desktop are:

    i) Changing the desktop background.

    ii) Changing the desktop colour.

    iii) Changing the desktop themes.

     

    3. What steps are needed to customize the start menu properties?

    The steps we need to customize the start menu properties are given below:

    i) Right click the start menu.

    ii) Click on the properties from the menu.

    (The taskbar and start menu properties dialog box appears on the screen)

    iii) Click the start menu tab.

    iv) Choose the classic start menu options.

    v) Click ok.

    (The classic start menu style will be in effect.

     

    4.  Give the process of resizing windows taskbar.

    In order to resize the taskbar:

    i) Move the mouse pointer over the inside edge of the taskbar until it become a double headed arrow.

    ii) Drag the edge of the taskbar until it is the size you want.

    iii) Release the mouse button after you get your desire size.

     

    5. How can you hide the quick launch icons?

    We can hide a quick launch icon just by right click on an empty space of the taskbar, from the menu click on properties. Taskbar and start menu properties dialog box appears. Lastly, deselect the show quick launch option from the dialog box to hide it.

     

    6. How will you switch to a classic view?

    To switch to classic view, click on Classic view option in the left pane of the Control panel window.

     

    7. What is windows?

    Windows is the most widely used operating system for personal computers. It provides a graphical user interface and desktop environment.

     

    8. What is the function of windows?

    Window provides functions that allow us to manage many programs simultaneously, customize our computer and carry out maintenance tasks associated with it. It come with several in built application called accessories.

     

    9. How can you change a various desktop setting of your computer?

    The various desktop settings can also be changed by right clicking on the desktop and selecting the personalize option from the menu. The personalization window opens displaying the various options.

     

    10. What is a taskbar? Name its parts.

    Taskbar is a long bar running along the bottom of the desktop screen. It has four different parts. They are:

    i) Start button

    ii) Quick launch toolbar

    iii) Active program area

    iv) Notification area
